Opening Meeting

At the opening meeting at the beginning of the semester, new students and professors meet and greet each other and receive information about the program, including graduation requirements. After the opening meeting, there is an after party, so please join us for a warm and informative time.

Undergraduate opening meeting: at the beginning of the 1st semester (March).

Graduate opening meeting: at the beginning of the 1st semester (March) and the 2nd semester (September). After parties are organized by major.

Academic Trip

Taking place every year in late April/early May, the academic trips are a highlight of departmental life, involving everyone from undergraduate majors and minors to graduate students and professors. Three different destinations are selected each year, with graduate students and professors choosing one based on their majors, and undergraduates choosing one based on their interests or where they would like to travel. Attending one academic trip is also a requirement for undergraduate graduation in the Dept. of Korean Language & Literature, so all students are encouraged to attend and bring back good memories.

Korean Linguistics Trip: Explore local culture and heritage by researching and documenting local dialects.

Korean Classical Literature Trip: Explore scenic sites where writers of the pre-modern era left their mark and experience the style and flavor of the past.

Korean Modern Literature Trip: Explore the literary museums, homes, and locations of major writers of modern literature.

General Trip: Returning once every four years, the Dept. of Korean Language & Literature’s general trip is also known as the “World Cup trip” because it takes place during the year of the World Cup. It is an invaluable opportunity for professors and graduate students from different majors to come together.

Final Class Party

At the end of each semester, final class party brings together undergraduates, graduate students, and professors from the Dept. of Korean Language & Literature for dinner and refreshments. It’s a fun time to reflect on the semester in the Dept. of Korean Language & Literature, including events, class activities, and clubs affiliated with the Department.
